Colors of Spanish

Begins April 12th
Mondays 3:30-4:30
Session 2 (7-week session $110); 4/12 - 5/24
Students have fun while they learn Spanish through art, songs, conversation. All levels.
Fee: $155/10-week session 1 and $110/7-week session 2

Chess for Kids 
Begins March 8th
Mondays 3:30-4:30 
The age old game of chess offers critical and logical thinking skills, improved concentration, patience, and sportsmanship skills. Students learn chess from the ground up and learn new strategies.  All levels.
Fee:    $60 per student/6 weeks (siblings half price) Scholarships considered.

Science for Kids (Grades 1 through 4)
Begins March 2nd
Tuesdays 4:00-5:00
Young scientists accomplish age-appropriate, fun, inquiry-based HANDS-ON science activities, laboratories and field studies. Themes include Botany, Zoology, Microlife, Chemistry, Ecology and Conservation. Scientists get to experience real science and take home something special with every class.* New science themes will occur with each session so students can enjoy continued enrollment with all science session

Capoeira for Kids 
Begins March 3rd
Wednesdays 3:30-4:30
Born to the rhythm of drums, Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art combining elements of dance, acrobatics, theatre, music and effective fighting techniques. The aim of the classes is to develop physical abilities, such as flexibility, stamina, and strength, as well as discipline, respect, and self-expression. Wear comfortable clothes.

For the Love of Art
Begins March 3rd
Wednesdays 3:30-4:30   
Creating art through various forms (painting, mosaics, oil pastels, clay etc). 
Students create works of art while learning about artists, artist styles, and of course learning new art techniques.  Students find new interests in exploring their own creativity.

Inner Discovery 
New Session Begins April 1st
Thursdays 3:30-5:00
This class will continue the inner journeying we began in the first semester but with a greater emphasis on meditation.  We will use visualization, breathing, journaling, guided imagery and simple creative art to learn how to focus, still the mind, relax, problem solve, and feel good.  Various meditation forms will be presented and explored in imaginative ways.  This will be a chance for your child to unwind at the end of the day and lay the foundation for your child to begin to create and discover inner strength and peacefulness.

Move Over Mozart (MOM)
Fridays 1:00-1:30           
A piano learning program designed for children ages 4 and up.  Kids enjoy the social aspect of group lessons, and while each child takes a turn playing his/her assignment for the teacher, the other children work individually on workbooks, or collectively on musically enforcing games and activities.  www.MozartPianoLearning.com

Origami & Kirigami
Begins March 1st
Mondays 3:30-4:30
Students will learn to make jumping frogs that they can race, fortune-tellers, pop-up cards, stunt aeroplanes, fancy boxes and simple modular pieces. We will make a cube, a tetrahedron and other shapes. Origami is recognized as a creative application for teaching and exposing children to simple geometry, symmetry, pattern repeats and other important math concepts. A brief overview of the Japanese origins of paper arts will be taught, and the meaning and differences between origami and kirigami discussed.

Learn to Sew-Make a "Wobbly"
Begins March 2nd
Tuesdays 3:30-4:00
Students will chose a template or draw their own, to cut and create a muslin body for a deconstructed style "Wobbly Doll". We will stuff and sew the child's design.  Students will use simple stitches depending on their level of needle art experience and ability. We will sew on button eyes, and embroider a mouth. Children can dress their "Wobbly" in clothing and will be encouraged to excel as they gain skills. The raw beginner-style of this project is well suited to the appeal of the finished toy. Instructor is professional patternmaker and will expose students to safe technical equipment.

Beginning Beadweaving
Begins February 26th
Every Other Friday 1:30-3:30
What do Native Americans, Ancient Egyptians, and Victorian England have in common?... A fondness for beadweaving. Children will learn basic beadweaving techniques used throughout history by many cultures. Square stitch, brick stitch and peyote stitch will be explored in this class. Students will learn on giant plastic beads that represent the smaller seed beads of the craft. When the technique is mastered students are encouraged to explore designing on pattern paper for a continued project in seed beads. The various stitches are represented with grid or  geometric tesselation akin to bitmap images. Students can design their own images on the pattern papers and reproduce them with their weaving talent. This class explores a little history, anthropology, math and design. This easy craft is fun and rewarding.
Fee: $30 for one 2 hour session. Class will take place EVERY OTHER Friday-2/26, 3/5, 3/19, 4/2

Engineering Fundamentals with LEGO
Coming in April!!!
Design and build motorized machines, catapults, pyramids, demolition derby cars, truss and suspension bridges, buildings, and other constructions.  Explore concepts in physics, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, and architecture while playing with your favorite creations.  This is a hands-on and minds-on class suitable for LEGO building system novices to “maniacs.” Returning students will work on new projects and challenges.
