One of his projects is working on economic development strategies with day-labor centers, including those in Sonoma County. He has also been, for five years, the research consultant to a Chicago-based nonprofit that provides a comprehensive school intervention strategy in Chicago elementary schools. He helps them apply findings from the teacher and parent surveys, as well as analysis of standardized test scores, to improve their teacher development and parent engagement programs.

Tim has lived and worked for several years in Central America and West Africa, and is fluent in Spanish and conversational in Portuguese. He is an avid long-distance runner and spends many hours playing games with his son, Ben. He hopes to soon have an electric plug-in hybrid to be fueled from their rooftop solar panels.

When her older daughter was in preschool, Beth became a believer in Montessori education for its ability to foster independence, self-motivation, and curiosity in learning. Beth was one of the main founders of Red Barn Montessori, a small preschool/kindergarten in Petaluma. She was on its board of directors for three years, where she was heavily involved with the legal and financial aspects of the school in its early years. Prior to moving to Petaluma, she was secretary of the board of directors of the Tomales Bay Association, an environmental watchdog group in west Marin. Beth enjoys cycling, sailing, traveling to Mexico, and reading.
