Participate | Volunteer | Contribute

Knowing that every member has something unique and special to contribute to the whole, participation is key to the implementation of Montessori philosophy and to the sucess of RMCS. The role of the adult in a Montessori classroom is to prepare the environment and quietly and subtly support the child in his or her individual interactions within the environment. In the larger context of our school community, families and affiliated community members volunteer in many different capacities and contribute financially to support the school and to create a thriving community at RMCS.

Participate

Participation has so many possibilities at River Montessori Charter School!  We invite you to…
  • Observe our classroom communities to deepen your understanding of Montessori philosophy and your child.  
  • Attend conferences, classroom events, Parent Education presentations and trainings to learn how to best support your child in a Montessori environment.
  • Join us for our monthly Community Conversations to ask questions and discuss open-agenda items related to child development, Montessori philosophy, and our school.
  • Come to Board meetings and Foundation meetings and events to see the inner-workings of our organization and connect with others 
  • Seek support when necessary from your child’s Montessori Guide so as to best support your child’s classroom experience.

Volunteer

Volunteering provides essential support for the school on many levels, and exemplifies for the children our philosophy that everyone has something indidivual and important to contribute.  With numerous opportunities to help in the classroom, at events, or from home, we are continually inspired and grateful for the generosity of our volunteers and the extent to which their efforts benefit the chidren, faculty, our facility, and the overall success of our school.

Contribute

The River Montessori Foundation provides tremendous financial support for RMCS through its Monthly Sustainer Program, which is a key contributor the the school's operating budget. As a publically-funded school, we are affected by decisions at the state level and rely on the consistent financial support from our families and community members to off-set challenges posed by fluctuations in state revenues. The Sustainer Program endeavors to  provide fiscal stability when funding is deferred or amended at the state level. If you have not already done so, please consider supporting RMCS through a monthly pledge.

Additional targeted donations and bequests processed through the Foundation have funded the implementation of a teaching garden, shade structures for our outdoor environment, an inviting community gathering area at school (Tributary Hallway), and one classroom assistant and PE teacher during the 2011-12 school year. 
  
Through in-kind gifts of furniture, paint, plants, materials, etc., parents have also transformed our facility and classrooms, and collaborate to maintain a beautiful and aesthetically appealing environment in which the children flourish.
