Visual and Performing Arts Guide

Music Teacher/Guide position available for immediate hire for the 2011-2012 school year.  This position requires love, patience and respect for children. Ideal candidate will have experience encouraging children to be independent and model for them appropriate manners and behaviors. The music teacher will instruct children in activities to introduce music theory, instruments, voice and fun.  An understanding of the philosophies of Maria Montessori is helpful.  This position reports to the Director.  

Major areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
  • Understanding and promoting the school’s vision, mission, and goals to students, parents, and community.  
  • Working with the community of administrators, teachers, parents, students, and board of directors, in articulating and maintaining the integrity and scope of the Montessori method.
  • Preparing the classroom environment to meet the students’ needs and interests.
  • Presenting consistent individual and group lessons to the students and supporting each child’s direction and success.
  • Introduce age appropriate curriculum that encompasses music theory, instruments & voice
  • Adhere to school and safety policies and procedures
  • Guide students in choosing work that will aid in discovery and increase in skills and knowledge
  • Encourage individual work time of children to promote independence as well as group work to promote socialization
  • Be present at parent/teacher conferences as required by Director
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children, parents and co-workers
  • Participate in all open houses and school programs as required by the Director
  • Allow children to be as independent as possible while providing the appropriate boundaries for civil behavior
  • Maintain a friendly, pleasant, and positive demeanor with children and parents, understanding and working in a Montessori manner
Requirements for Visual and Performing Arts Guide:
  • Availability Mon - Thurs afternoons (exact schedule TBD)
  • Ability to work with children 6-12 years of age
  • Knowledge of music theory, instruments & voice
  • Experience directing and teaching music to elementary age children desired
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, additional certifications & degrees helpful but not required
  • First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Successful applicants must have clear (or negative) TB and pass criminal background check
  • Public Montessori experience a plus
  • Passed CBEST a plus
